This Don Ohl basketball card is number 128 in a series of 175 that was manufactured by the Topps Company Inc. for the 1970-1971 National Basketball Association season. The card is longer than standard cards, measuring 2½ inches by 4 ¾ inches. The front of the card features a posed picture of the Cleveland Cavaliers guard on a yellow background. The card’s reverse features a small cartoon image illustrating the factoid that “Don led the Peoria Caterpillars to the National Amateur Championship in 1959-60,” as well as a short biography and career statistics. Don played ten years in the NBA as a member of the Detroit Pistons, Baltimore Bullets, and St. Louis/Atlanta Hawks.
The 1970-1971 Topps set often features players wearing their jersey backwards, wearing their warm-ups, or obscuring their team name via their pose. While the exact reason is unknown, it is believed that the players received a fee for their appearance on the card, which would be forfeited to the team if the team name appeared in the photograph.
