This shekere was made by Latin Percussion Inc. in Garfield, New Jersey, in 1999. It is a Pro Model Shekere, made of fiberglass, with a string lattice of plastic beads.
As indicated in an LP brochure from the period, “LP created the LP Pro Shekere based upon the gourd shape of the natural models and with the help of Roger Squilero. It incorporates a durable white fiberglass body that is wrapped with a lattice of Jenigor® plastic beads. It is the most durable and dependable shekere ever made.”
”The LP Pro Shekere produces loud, high pitched shaker and rattle sounds. The large fiberglass body, thick neck and wide mouth produce extremely low bass tones when struck on the bottom. A rubber ring surrounds the mouth of the shekere to protect it. The attractive black and red beads, which are hand strung in the finest traditional fashion, and white body look great on stage!”
