Smithsonian Food History Weekend

October 15-17, 2020

Join us on Thursday, October 15, 2020 for our sixth annual Smithsonian Food History Gala. Our annual Food History Gala features a dynamic crowd of food professionals and enthusiasts at the nation’s history museum for a night like no other. The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Julia Child Award by The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts to an individual who has made a profound and significant difference in the way America cooks, eats, and drinks. The Gala supports the Museum’s annual Food History Weekend and the work of the Museum’s food history team. Named “The Best Festival for Food Lovers” by Washington City Paper, the Weekend will engage tens of thousands of visitors onsite and online around the theme of Women & Food. Through this lens, the Food History Weekend and Gala will explore women’s activism around food justice, and their contributions to food education, policy, and practice historically and in contemporary life.
