First Ladies’ Activities (page 1 of 4)

The First Ladies at the Smithsonian

Increasingly, the Museum’s interest in the first lady centers on her actions while in office. State gifts illustrate her ceremonial and diplomatic roles. Posters and programs attest to the causes she supports. Objects as varied as calling cards and campaign buttons document her social and political activities, and the musical instruments and handiwork in the collection reflect some of her personal interests.
