Daniel Gifford, Ph.D. is the former Manager of Museum Advisory Committees. In his position Dan creates and staffs a variety of advisory committees for the museum, including ones dedicated to food and wine; immigration and migration; and American entertainment and culture. His outreach programs help the Museum plan and execute upcoming exhibitions and programs.
In addition to his work in External Affairs, Dan has used his expertise in American history and American culture (especially holiday culture) to contribute blog posts, articles, and lectures to the Museum’s educational outreach. He also serves on the steering committee of the Smithsonian’s Material Culture Forum, and has contributed pan-institutionally to Smithsonian programs including the Smithsonian Associates; The Winton M. Blount Postal History Symposia; and the Smithsonian exhibition "Inside Insights: Photographs by the Smithsonian Community."
