Women activists in the late 1800s advocated for conservation of endangered bird species and helped establish the National Audubon Society. Since that time, many Americans have given their time to conduct counts of bird species as part of efforts to conserve bird populations.
The exhibit Giving and the Environment offers a snapshot look at their story and surveys Americans’ giving for the environment from the late 1800s to the present.
