Polio, a disease that alarmed many, increased in frequency and severity in the early to mid-1900s. The March of Dimes was founded to treat and care for people with polio, and the organization pioneered many of the mass fundraising techniques that became common in the 20th century. Amanda Moniz, the David M. Rubenstein Curator of Philanthropy, discovered that her family is part of this story.
