National Museum of American History Tells Breast Cancer Philanthropy Story

Smithsonian Adds Breast Cancer Awareness and Research Objects to Its “Giving in America” Exhibit

WHAT:      A donation ceremony to accept objects used in highlighting breast cancer awareness and
                   the urgent need for research funds. The original pink-ribbon enamel pin and breast
                   cancer-awareness petition are among the objects being accepted from The Estée Lauder
                   Companies Archives and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The ceremony will be
                   followed by the “Power of Giving” symposium focused on health and medicine.

The museum will acquire The Estée Lauder Companies’ “Count Me In” petition with pink ribbon, a breast cancer-awareness campaign donation card featuring an enamel pink-ribbon pin, a Breast Cancer Research Foundation press kit, the Breast Cancer Awareness Coin set by the U.S. Mint and a pink-ribbon compact.
These objects were part of one of the most successful health-awareness campaigns. A selection will be on view in the museum’s “Giving in America” exhibit opening March 20. Media may also cover the symposium, including “25 Years of Breakthroughs: A History of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation,” featuring Dr. Larry Norton, Medical Director, Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and others.
