Caroline (she/her) manages the recruitment, application process, onboarding, logistical support, professional development, and evaluation for the museum’s interns, fellows, and research associates as well as internship mentors and fellowship advisors. She works to create and cultivate equitable and meaningful professional learning and research experiences for the NMAH interns and fellows. Caroline also serves on the NMAH Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) Council and the Center for Restorative History.
Prior to joining NMAH, Caroline taught in Maryland as a secondary English and Reading teacher and in Chicago as informal educator at Lincoln Park Zoo, where she worked with teachers and students during the school year, focusing on inquiry-based scientific research, and with teen interns during the summer, focusing on conservation and interpretation. Additionally while at Lincoln Park Zoo, Caroline also became a Certified Interpretive Guide through the National Association of Interpretation, served on the zoo’s two Diversity and Inclusion committees, and was a founding member of the Chicagoland Alliance for Museums with Pride, an organization dedicated to fostering inclusion of LGBTQ+ individuals both working in and attending museums in Chicago. Caroline is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
