Alex studies and writes about 19th century African American history. Her research focuses on free Black property owners in antebellum St. Louis, examining the intersection of capitalism, sex work, formal law, and racial violence in the city.
Alex develops and manages hands-on and virtual educational programming for visitors, specializing in conversational interpretation and multisensory programming. She mentors and leads the Daily Programs intern cohorts, introducing undergraduate students to the possibilities of public history and museum education.
Alex currently manages the daily visitor experience, the Daily Programs interns, Coulter Plaza, and the demonstration kitchen. She also manages virtual programming, including the monthly History Film Forum series and the Cooking Up History series.
