Since joining the Diary Project in mid-2010, Barbara Berglund has written short biographies of Steinway family members. She has also researched a variety of topics, including the Pippin cider so frequently mentioned by William in his diary entries from 1895.

Berglund is a cultural historian of the nineteenth-century United States with special interests in gender, race, and class in the urban American West. She received her PhD in history from the University of Michigan, and currently holds an associate professorship in the history department at the University of South Florida. She is the author of numerous articles and the book, Making San Francisco American: Cultural Frontiers in the Urban West, 1846-1906 (University Press of Kansas, 2007).
