Laurie Medford interned with the Steinway Diary Project during the fall semester of her junior year in college. She assisted the Managing Editor and Project Coordinator in routine Diary Project tasks and in preparing for the website launch.

Through working on the list of researcher assignments, formatting databases, and editing Steinway family bios, she learned about the long history of the Diary Project and the interesting story of William’s role in developing the city of Astoria, New York. Laurie especially enjoyed dating photographs used in the website and exhibition by comparing the clothing in the pictures to different nineteenth-century fashions.

A native of Osseo, Wisconsin, Laurie is a history major at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. She finds many areas of history interesting, and is currently engaged in research on Civil War veterans. When not pursuing her studies, Laurie enjoys sewing and learning about historical clothing construction. Although time and distance prevent her from continuing to work on the Steinway Diary Project, she looks forward to watching it progress in the future.
