"Satisfaction pieces" is a legal term that refers to formal acknowledgement given by the person who has received payment (satisfaction) of a mortgage or judgment, which then permits entry on the record that payment has been made. William is noting satisfaction (payment to him) of eight mortgages on properties held by the Astoria Homestead Company. (Oxford English Dictionary, Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1961, Vol. IX (S-Soldo), p. 122 "satisfaction pieces".)
