Endless Charity. William Steinway's newest gifts

Once again William Steinway proved his generosity in that he wants to give the payment of $6,250 promised him as having been a member of the Rapid Transit Commission to charity. In view of the words "who gives quickly, gives double" William Steinway has already given the amounts to his intended institutions whose aim is to protect the poor of the metropolis from the summer's burden and heat. He will not receive the amount until after legal formalities have concluded.

However, he has already sent the following to:
St. John’s Guild of NY City $250; NY Herald Free Ice Fund $150;
NY Evening World Fresh Air Fund $150.
He will distribute the remaining funds as follows:
United Charities of NY City $500; Mount Sinai Hospital of NY City $500; German Hospital of NY City $500; Isabella Home of NY City $500; German Society of NY City $500; German Ladies Association for Widows and Orphans of NY City $500; Health Insurance Fund for workers of Steinway & Sons $500; Hebrew Sheltering  Arms and Immigration Aid Society $250 each; Astoria Hospital Society in Long Island City $250; Steinway Free Circulating Library, Steinway, L.I. City $250; To the poor of the town of Seesen in Germany, $250; Building Fund of the Emperor William I. Memorial Church in Berlin, Germany, $1,200; at total of $6,250.

As reported from Milwaukee, Mr. Steinway has also arranged for a nice surprise for the Music Club [Musikverein] whose honorary member he is. In a warm letter to Mr. Emmerling, President of the Music Club, this art patron informed him that he will permit himself to make a present to the Club in the form of a Steinway concert grand. In this letter he referred to his warm memories of the music festival held in Milwaukee in 1886, whose splendid success was largely to be attributed to this music club.
