Charles Frederick Schmidt, Jr. (b February 6, 1867; d February 5, 1941) whom William Steinway identified as a merchant appraiser (Diary, 1885-11-19) married Ella Frederike Steinway, William's niece, daughter of his late brother Albert and Louisa Albertine Kreischer.(2)

Charles Frederick Jr., son of Charles Frederick Sr., a wine importer known to William, married Ella Steinway on January 11, 1894, in the Church of the Divine Paternity in New York City, the Rev. Charles H. Eaton officiating. (Diary, 1894-01-11) (3) They had no children but were active participants in Steinway family activities, enjoying many trips with relatives to Europe.(Diary, 1894-08-25, 1895-03-05, 05-23) They lived on 30 W. 69th Street (Diary, 1894-03-26) in a five story house Ella Steinway had purchased before their marriage. (Diary, 1893-10-05; 10-17 and 10-19) They also had a home in Pleasantville, New York (5) and in 1937 built a home in Winter Park, Florida, which they used seasonally and where Ella died in 1948.
