Returning to the Hotel meet Dr. G. Schirmer + wife, latter a Cousin of my wife also Conrad Ranft, he + Mrs. Schirmer being sons of the late Volkmar Ranft. My family depart at 1.47. P.M. I take table d’hote with Mr. Nikisch + wife, look at Album of Louis Kraft, showing many dedications from great artists. E. Leonhardt calls, I walk to Siegels publication office, see partitur of Heinrich Zoellners ‘Hymnus der Liebe’ rest at Cafè Francaise, take 6.15. P.M. Express train, reach Dresden 8.24 P.M. when Grandpa Ranft arrived from Hamburg via Berlin, Having arrived there with steamship Normannia at 11 A.M. in 9 days from NewYork to Dresden. Receive an immense mail and many newspapers. Stop at Buchers Hotel National

In forenoon visit the Elbe and see the tremendous inundation, the River being 20 feet above its normal height, then wife to Papa + Mama Ranft, take table ‘hote with my family, write lots of letters and postal cards, wife and I go to Ranfts, after supper play Skat with Papa + Dick Ranfts Oskar Canzler, win 52 Pf. Papa Ranft wins 1 Mark 1 Pf. Dick + Oskar lose. Mrs Ranft sen & Martha have an explanation

Get shaved, drive with wife & children to Fabricius, Photographer, meet all the family there, we take a full family picture but find it impossible to keep our Maud quiet. I then drive with Canzlers to Neustadt with Martha to Arnolds Kunsthandlung. Martha selects a 100 Mark picture as present from Henry Poggenburg. I drive to Klemm, have a long visit with him, then to Hotel, write letters and postal cards, walk to Ranfts, via Bohm. Bahnhof. At 3 P.M. whole family assembles for dinner.
