NewYork, January 1st 1894

Jan 1st Monday.

Fine weather. Both Willie & Meta somewhat ill. Dr. Langmann attends and pronounces it Scarlet fever. I have many visitors, Receive a nice New Year cablegram from Paderewski in Paris

Jan 2d Tuesd.

Theodor, Maud & Willie St v. Bernuth are taken to Toussaints. Mr. & Mrs. Aug. Fricke sail for Europe by steamer "Ems". Orlando B. Potter and Adolph L. Sanger died. Am at St. Hall. Attend Rapid Transit Session at 2 P.M. Excessively busy with Coupon matters Justina Ingersoll from New Haven called. Max Mansfeld attempts to see me in the morning, I refuse, he is dispossessed and Hollander +Co. assume proprietorship of Cafè Figaro

Jan 3d Wed.

My son Theodor goes back to school in Summit. Both Meta & Willie better having light attacks only. Papa Ranft in Dresden dangerously ill with inflamation of the lungs also reported by cable to Dick Ranft to be better. Hear Miss Gaffney sing, introduced by Mr. Ingersoll

Jany 4th Thursd.

Working at store all day. Chas. E. Runk and E. Naumburg call, Hillam calls in evg, having dropped Reno Tunnel and claiming to have American & english capitalists for an Underground road

Jany 5th frid.

E. Naumburg called again wanting our commercial paper, which I decline. Bushe and Pease called as to Abstract of title. Worked hard all day at the store and caught a severe cold, steam being turned off. Am interviewed by John C. Freunds man Weil. Write a number of letters to Europe home in evg. Daimler cabled "pachtweise"

Jany 6. Sat.

John C. Freunds Music Trades, and Harry E. Freunds papers have nice articles on me. Send to Geo W. Cotterill my original offer of St. Pianofabrik for sale to Steinway +Sons dated Decbr 24th 1889. I suffer badly with my cold and cough and sneeze a great deal. In evg. Kübler comes and he, L v. B. +I have quite a talk as to Daimler Motor Company
