NewYork+Astoria, Aug 24th 1895.

 

last ev’g having begun to take the new medicine of Dr. Scharlau Drive to North Beach, Steinwehr Post there, meet Commander von Schack and other friends. Also meet Clinton L. Rossiter Pres. Brooklyn City R.R. Col. Williams and Mr. McCormick Supt. of that devision. They desire to arrange a larger loop and come closer to the water, show them also our proposed race track. A woman named Josephine Mack brought suit agt George Law for $150.000. for breach of promise. Met at Steinwehr Post also Kate Hillenbrand, former Mrs. Weinberg, now Mrs.
It rained a little at 8 P.M. but soon cleared up. Mrs. Kessler called:

Aug 25th Sund.

Beautiful sunny day, not too hot. Silbernagel called and I refuse my consent to call his “Quartette” Steinway Quartette. J. O Toussaint comes by I treat him coolly so that he makes no attempt to borrow money. Wm H. Williams calls. I feel slight touch in my left heel and correspondingly lighter in my right instep. I work hard til 4P.M. then drive with Julia D. Cassebeer via North Beach which is filled with an immense crowd of orderly people, to Flushing and College Point, take boat Wiehawken at 5 P.M. to 99th str. NewYork drive to Astoria Ferry cross over +via Shore road to Mansion arrive there at 6.45. P.M. North Beach boats crowded from stem to stern, although all four boats “Wiehawken”, “Hackensack”, “Chancellor” and “James” are running. My left heel gets rapidly better towards evg and I again walk without sticks. Fred Steinway +Reidemeister. Cabled 400 Marks to Aug. Spanuth through our Hamburg house at his urgent request Bonds of the Steinway Railway Comp. are now quoted at 106 and the stocks 40, which is a most aggreeable change

Aug 26th Mond.

Julia D. & Arthur Cassebeer go to the White Mountains, Paul Schmidt+Teddy Cassebeer arrive from Europe. Hanna L. Saxer arrives pr. Saale. Mrs. Dr. Eugene Coleman Savidge calls about her husbands book “The American in Paris” Ferry receipts saturday +Sunday nearly $2200. Had a long consultation with Chas. H. St. – Stetson had to remain home being ill. Mrs. Spanuth called, also Helen v. Hünerbein. Harry
