New York, March 4th 1873.

March 4th Tuesday.

Intensely cold since last night. Dine at Zieglers. With Albert to farm, first at Van Alsts office. Ice all gone in front of our store, Canal boat towed off again. Going home look at yacht, which is nearly finished in the Hull at Van Winkles yard, and looks quite good & is built very strong. At L.K. in eveg. Surplus of Ball nearly $6000. I preside at all Meetings, we are afterwards in Basement, having a jolly time at my birthday tomorrow. I treat lunch and beer $21.00

March 5th Wed.

Weather fine and Moderating. Adelmann & I cancel his lease of Sargent place, he to move out of it on the 1st day of May next. My children in the morning each present me with a bouquet of flowers to my 38th birthday. Go to my house with Tretbar at 5 P.M. dine there. In evening surprise party for me at my house. My children perform in a little french Comedy "Les Deux Millions together with Miß Emma Barker, Miß Amanda Smith & my Niece very nicely in french, we dance and are jolly until 3½ A.M. when we retire

March 6th

fine mild day, thawing. Have a slight touch in left foot, but do not limp. Children much pleased with last nights entertainment, dine at Cassebeers preside at board of Trustee Meeting, afterwards at R. E. Meeting, nothing done.

March 7th friday.

With wife, Albert & wife & Rieke at Germania Theatre Maria & Magdalena given very finely. At Monument House afterwards. With Lewis and Eberspacher at the farm

March 8th Sat.

Plans & Specifications finally finished. With Albert at farm First trial of foundry, Cupola & blower work splendidly. Cast our old Scrap Iron into Pig Iron. We nearly have a fire wood work of Roof too near Cupola, we knock it out, to be replaced with sheet Iron
