New York, May 15th 1878.

  

Berger calls in afternoon, home in evening play Whist with Chas. St. Theo St. & wife, win 2 Cts.

May 16th Thursday.

Excessively busy, at 12½ P.M.to Rathskeller, see Ottendorfer, stop at Surrogates Court, DeWalltears promises Inventory tomorrow, see Van Santvoord, who reads draft of Chickering suit decree. take lunch home, spend eve'g at Theodors house meet Dr. Schnetter there, who tells us that Mertens + his wife have separated!

J. Ziegler sells his factory property for $70.000

May 17th friday.

Beautiful day, to store early, work, at 12½ P.M. see Bissinger, to Rathskeller consult with Ottendorfer about German Savings Bk, at Registers Office, see to my horror that Roll especially undertook to assume and discharge the first Mortgage on 79 Ridge str Call at Van Santvoords Office, his clerk drawing up decree & other stipulations. Home in eve'g Theodor with me, writing letters to Europe.

May 18th sat.

Bright day. At 11½ A.M. with George and Paula to Theo. take dinner, we then drive to Astoria, look over factory, we afterwards to Isabella Home where we eat drink & listen to speeches, at 5½ H. Cassebeer jr. comes with George + Paula, we then drive home, I remaining til 10 P.M. Ziegler coming & talking over his recent sale of his factory property

Reck goes by Steamer Neckar, having come in the same & spending only one week secretly in this Cntry,
