New York and Astoria, Aug 20th 1886.

Aug 20th contd --

remitted £1000 to Berlin.  My touch of gout is completely gone. Spend ev'g at Beach, talking over matters with Ehret, Williams and Cassebeer, temporary kitchen being rigged up

Aug 21st Sat.

lovely day. Attend Meeting of Oakes creditors am elected chairman, propose that three trustees be appointed to build up bus. and pay all in full, which is assented to by all creditors. At 2 P.M. drive to Steinway, where the procession of our men with Music, J. Bernsteiner band, has just passed. The picnic of our workmen turns out to be a glorious affair, myself + Ehret participating, separate picnic place at Bowery Beach being completely filled with the men, their friends and families the whole coming to an end at midnight, not marred by the slightest occurrence

Lovely day, write article for Staatszeitung dictate letters to Frank, lunch and supper at the beach, write article in ev'g for the Courier have talk with Carrie Backel as to coachman Mike and his misbehavior + laziness, retire early

Aug 23d monday.

Again fine weather. The money flurry eases up somewhat. Article in Staatsztg on picnic reads splendidly. Chas. H. St. reports his wife quite ill. My wife writes from Adirondack that they are all well. The receipts for the week ending saturday night reach, on my R.R. the unprecedented figure of $3,134.57/100. Ellen Stone, our former laundress comes in and says our old servt Therese Heilman is insane, her husband with three
