New York, May 19th 1883.

May 19th sat.

Beautiful day. Lunch home at 12. With wife & Paula L. Road & Carriage to Astoria. Old McBride shop now nicely built up for J. Kessler & Co. My Cottages are nearly all finished, so is the establishment of E. P. Tappay & Co. Steinway Ave. looks beautiful (having been crowned) and trees & stones around them, whitewashed. Drive through Park on returning, ladies home, I pr. 6th Ave. L. R.R. to Astor House, nice dinner to A. J. Dam, F. + O. Steins Biedermann & myself sing Quartetts nicely, am in good voice, Cotterill Garrigue, Judges Freedman & Hall there, home after 1 AM

May 20th sund.

Slight Katzenjammer, work in Store in forenoon consult with Chas. St. who returned from California late Sat. night, on Gray affairs. In afternoon in Carriage to Astoria with wife, nurse & baberich + Paula + George, whole family Zieglers & Cassebeers there, On returning drive through St + Jackson Ave. + 34th str. Ferry home, in 1 hour. In eve'g look over Minutes of first Meeting of Steinway & Hunters Point R.R. of May 2/83

May 21st Monday.

lunch at Hollenders, call on Burnett, learn to my horror that Judges Barnard, Dyckman and Pratt have reversed the Judgement in case of opening of Flushing Ave. which at once stops the Improvement. At 3 P.M. Vandyke trial goes on, Wilcox cross examines me for 1878. I get along splendidly. Marsh present, but he sits on the Sopha sleeping, at 5 P.M. Wilcox declares that he is through with me, when Cotterill comes in from Superior Court where he has been engaged all day. Home in eve'g writing

May 22d Tuesd.

Very busy, see Burnett in afternoon am called upon by Stein of the Sts Ztg and Amberg, relative to Grünfeld. Meet Schewitch who interviews me about Sommers alleged running away & defalcation. I laugh + tell him that Sommer is still there. Ladies at Article 47, Grand Opera House. I to L.K. via Belt line, preside in ev'g ___
