Stetson & wife sail in Steamer City of Rome to England Am very busy, but go to Astoria at 4 P.M. Look over R.R. stable, gas for new shed +c. Work in evg

Aug 10th sund.

Ed. Droop of Washington calls in forenoon, consults me about business affairs takes dinner with us. Willie at table, an earthquake at precisely 2.10 P.M. shakes our house to the very foundations. We all rush out Nurse Bertha badly frightened. Work rest of day at circular to dealers +c. R.R. receipts $18500/100.

Learn from papers that area of Earthquake extended from Virginia to Vermont into Atlantic Ocean At Bk in afternoon, have toothache in eveg

Aug 12th Tuesd.

Tinners to work at Annex 108 E. 15th str. George starts to Pine Hill to get Paula. At 6½ P.M. to L.K. eat supper, at 8½ Centl Com. Session for German Soc. Then election of Conductors for next year takes place resulting in Theo. Thomas 1st Conductor, Edward Heimendahl 2d (after some trouble & speech of mine) and A. Paur Ehrendirigent. Home at 1 AM

Aug 13th Wed.

Lovely cool day. Very busy. At 2 P.M. to Dr. Allen who fixes my teeth, finds them all right, removes tartar. Then by my cars via Hunters Point to Flush. Ave. meeting, no quorum, decide to let Jos L. T. Smyth re-survey the Ave, with Williams to Queens Co. Hotel. Home eve'g

Aug 14. Thursday.

Richd Goerdeler comes in. Miß Schirmer consulted me Tuesday and yesterday. We are at last safely under roof with annex buildg St. Hall, see to my horror that my friend Henry Volckmann died yesterday at the Clifton house. At Astoria eve'g, stop at East River Gas Light Co. afternoon
