Walk in forenoon, see Shed location, work L. v. Bernuth & wife, Louisa A. St. & family with us for dinner + afternoon. With L. v. B. + Willie St. to Astoria Ferry, in carriage, Meet F. W. Holls + wife at 3.15 P.M. take them all over Steinway and Bowery Bay, and drive them back to Ferry. It rains from 8 P.M. all night very heavily. | |

Mr. Oswald Ottendorfer calls on me, we have quite a chat. At 4.15 P.M. poor little Arthur Steinway dies of diptheria in Dr. Krugs house At 7½ P.M. I am at Delmonicos, on invitation by Carl Schurz, about 30 gentlemen assemble, in honor of the arrival of the new Hamburg Steamer “Augusta Victoria” it is a most enjoyable affair and I make several speeches. Home at my Gramercy Park house at midnight |

At 10 A.M. at Surrogates Court, on probate of last will and testament of C. F. Theo. St. All is well except second codicill of Sept 12/85 on which Lina Nafz alone testifies, Armin von Holwede living at Braunschweig, and which will require further testimony. Cora Brown consults me as to going into Millinery business I advise agt it, Steinhagen calls at same time, home evg, work |
