Wiesbaden, July 3d 1892

July 3d Sund.

Beautiful day, passed a fine night big muscle nearly well, took 9th bath, my left hand nearly well, can get up & sit down, and in and out of bed, alone. Work all afternoon, letters & instructions to Holwede regarding Potsdam. Grandpa Ranft & Ellie to dinner at Gehrenbecks. Otto Arens and Schmidt visit me. Papa Ranft takes leave of me

July 4th Mond.

Raining all day, young Ceasar calls on me, he also takes the baths here. Steamer City of Chicago foundered at Queenstown on Kinsole Rocks a few days ago, having run on the rocks with full speed in the fog. Steamers "Ems" with Adams and Hoffmann on board passed Scilly yesterday. I passed a very good night, took my 10th bath can now walk slowly without a stick, and take longer walks. Eat some veal today. My arms and legs are greatly emaciated and I am quite weak, my left leg feeling light a weight of lead. Mr. Ceasar sends my boys an American flag with which they and Maud play Sit up all afternoon, reading and writing My family all go out in afternoon, so I can safely be left alone now for a few hours.
