NewYork, April 25th 1895

 

for the opening of New Steinway Hall (Lyon Potter +Co.) Chicago May 10 & 11th Set up in Invalid wagon from noon until 10 P.M. and work. Miss Rippe + Miss Newport called, telling me that the first meeting of the 5 ladies at Zoellners today was not very successful. At 3P.M. Meeting of the N.Y. +Lg Isl. R.R. directors at my house in sitting room. It is excessively warm, 82 degrees today. I put on my Alpaca coat

April 26th frid.

Warm sunny day, am not disturbed much. Signor di Grandi called again. Sit up from 12M toEvidently getting better, only left knee perceptibly affected. I again could not attend the hearing of Rapid Transit bill before Mayor Strong at City Hall today, but the friends of the bill had their field day today as far as the Evg Post reports. My little Grandson has tonsilitis and must be kept separated from the order children in the house. The sales in the Daimler Motor Co. boats and Motors have grown larger to a gratifying degree

April 27th sat.

Slept well, Called Pres. Theodore Rogers, also Rosa Franko who tells me that she has been married to Adolph H. Burkard three months. Also came Mrs.Bird, borrowed $25. I also had a long interview with Mdlle Szumowska regarding her future career, promise her St+S. support +my own to a reasonable degree. Louis v. B. to dinner of billiard L.K. Championship given by Chas. H. St. who returned from Atlantic City, N.J. at noon today. I also had a long consultation with Counselor George W. Cotterill as to our lawsuits with Harbuckle. He yesterday entered up my Judgment agt Harbuckle in the Hamburg case amounting to $112835 and which today is published in every newspaper of NY. City Business is still very bad and depressed all over the Country. Carl v. B. +Son with us to supper, after L.v.B.+Paula returned from “Steinway” Marc A. Blumenberg called on acct of M. Steinert suit, talk also of Harry E. Freund joining Musical Courier which seems to strike Blumenberg
