NewYork, May 2d 1895.

 

Dr. Müller, Heinrich Zoellner, Chas. T. Harvey, B. Newport, Kübler as to building addition to Daimler Motor Comp, and many others pester me all day so that I cannot work at all. Paul Loeser called and got a subscription of $500. for German Press Club Building, Ottendorfer having given $2000 and Mrs. Woerishoffer $1000. Also, Amanda Fabris in her troubles, also Harry Flachsenhaar. +c. Alex E. Orr was reelected at Chamber of Commerce as President. Retire at 10½ P.M.

May 3d frid.

Gramercy Park has been budding out during the past few days. I again have little time to work being overrun with visitors. Misses Rippe and Newport, also Mrs. Bainbridge Smith call. sat up all day in front room from noon to 10 P.M.
My Name is still mentioned in the colonization plan, as having loaned my land to the poor peoples___ in the Newspapers all over the Country. Genl. John Newton died day before yesterday. In ev’g to my great joy I read in the Evg. Post that Governor Morton has signed the Rapid Transit bill in full. H. A. Cassebeer+wife to supper with us and afterwards they go to Theatre with L.v.B. + Paula

May 4th sat.

Beautiful day. Pandemonium reigning, so that I cannot get out of bed until 2.30 P.M. Cotterill, Richd H. Adams, N. Stetson (who goes to Chicago tonight) Blumenberg and many others call, also M. Steinert who places releases from all the Steinert family to Blumenberg and Musical Courier into my hands “in escrow” My cold eases up considerably. I am having lots of trouble with the quarrel bet. Holwede and Dora Burmeister so that I have to constantly cable them separately to work together

May 5th sund.

Receive from Dora Burmeister the following cable “Did send everything Holwede, wants direct orders played for Empress mother, Burmeister” so the trouble goes right on. L.vB. + Paula to Steinway. I walk alone on crutches several times during the day. Stetson left for Chicago yesterday, and telegraphs from Battle Creek Mich. to telegraph him opening dates of Steinway Hall in London and NewYork, also that it is intensely hot. Evidently a
