Feel touches of gout in my back right ancle, left large toe and right shoulder. the Humidity in the air is terrible. Theodore Stein calls and purchases the two lots N.E. cor. Wolcott Ave + Albert street for $1500. Heavy moist fog in the forenoon. Last saturday and friday the Hallet+Davis Piano Co. and Schaeffer Piano of Chicago, and the Hallett +Davis Piano Comp. of Boston assigned. Remain at Mansion til 1P.M. Then at St. Hall til 8 P.M. Mrs. Klose called with her daughter Augusta, Relatives of Mrs. Julius Hahne, she is quite a gifted pianiste. I drive up to L.K. have Ringler come out + speak to him about L.K. taxes and ladies day at 50th Jubilee of L.K. reach Mansion 10 PM

July 22d Wed.

Extremely humid all day. I suffer badly in right shoulder + right ancle, viz. in the large muscle over the heel, I have to take crutches. Succeed in doing a great deal of work, not being disturbed either by callers or telephone. Yesterday Gustav H. Schwab and Ed. Grosse called, on the grave political crisis now hanging over the U. S. Col. Oliver Barnes tries to see me. Poor old Max Maretzek also came wanting to be my private secretary for the Opera. Am notified that Henriette Weber (widow of our old Teutonia Conductor of 43 years ago) died yesterday at the Isabella Home. Dunn reports that the humidity has risen to 100 pr. Ct. It feels dreadfully depressing and uncomfortable. Cornelius Vanderbilt continues to improve and is fairly out of immediate danger. Surrogate today makes the U. S. Trust Co (as I suggested) Co-Administrator of Alga Law to administer Estate of George Law deceased.

July 23d Thursd.

At last West wind and dry cool weather sets in after terrific thundersorms during the night. My shoulder seems a little better. Remain in bed til 11 P.M. then get down to library with great difficulty. At 2 P.M. Dr. Scharlau arrived who prescribed colchicum drops and Salicylic pills. Harry Low brings my mail and we talk over things. N.Y. Herald brings my letter and has a splendid article on my donation of now $5000,
