New York, Septbr 4th 1877.

  

Gross for two fire escapes, one from each balcony, of wrought Iron, at Steinway Hall. Find the modes of fire escape at the Steinway factory excellent. Arrange details of Contract with Maxwell, at Theodors house, among us three. Then we go to Zieglers, eat Supper, then Maxwell & I to Liederkranz, where I preside, and reach home at 11.14, PM

Septbr 5th Wed.

Cool splendid day, Sun has an acct of Hale based upon my information, reflecting pretty badly upon his business. Telegram from Tretbar "Thomson signed long certificate refuses the other" Tretbar Glasgow" At 12½ P.M. Theodore, Maxwell, Capt Bussius Engineer Watts & I at Tafelrunde, walk to Fulton street with 225 boat to Astoria, first at factory, then take a fine sail to Fort Schuyler Return at 6 P.M. eat "Saure Vietsbohnen" Theodor wife, Capt Bussius, & Watts drive to N.Y. at 8:30 P.M. Maxwell remains.

Sept 6th Thursday.

To town with Lizzie Cassebeer via 11th street, at 10 A.M. pay off Tretbars Note for $8000. at Bk of the Metropolis, then with Theodore to Willard Bartlett, he is on the stand, then with Theo. to Schmidt & Curtius lunch with Theo. & Schmidt at Max Schedlers
