New York, Jan 18th 1878.

Jan 18th friday.

Tribune contains telegraphic News of resolution, Tretbar & Phelps come from Phila. & briefly tell me of occurrences there I still remain in Rocking Chair all day. 120 drop's of Reynolds at night

Jan 19th sat.

Scurrilous article of Weber in the Tribune. Busy all day. In eve'g "Leopold Smith" also calls. Sleep very quietly after 80 drops Reynolds

Jan 20th Sunday.

Rains all day, Phelps & Tretbar call, have prepared an article, alter it slightly & then send it to Crall for the Tribune Office, Theodore calls in eve'g remains til 11 O'clock, take 60 drops of Reynolds, remained in the library all day

Jan 21st Monday.

At 9 A.M. drive in Carriage to Store, our Card in Tribune splendid everybody delighted with it, except Theodore who writes me an angry letter on the subject I go up with Carriage to Aunt Louisa's house, have a few words of explanation with Theo. telling him how Tretbar was called at 12 Midnight to Whitelaw Reid's house, as to change of headings I succeed in pacifying him to some extent. Afterwards play Skat with George Kreischer J. Ziegler & H. St. win 32 Cents. Home in Carriage with H. St. & George Kr. at 10½ sleep well
