Contagion
I did Contagion in a fit of desperation, after having been traumatized seeing the death of George Floyd on the news, and I felt helpless and hopeless that we would ever gain control over systemic racism in this country. The scourge of Covid19 that was terrorizing all of us creating a global pandemic.
I began, as I always do, in my sketch book and it became clear to me that racism and the pandemic are both forms of contagion. Neither one is easily wrestled into submission. To do so requires will and determination to do the right thing, to put others above ourselves, and to find the humanity that is our connection and our cornerstone. Hopefully, upon viewing Contagion, people will see those parallels.
