The Decision

My husband and I live in NYC. Our three children, their partners and children are scattered throughout the United States - one in LA, five in Ohio and two in Vermont. Driving to finally see some of them after months apart, we decided to visit with our daughter and her fiancee in Burlington, Vermont. 5 hours into our drive, we received a panicked call from our daughter, that one of the people she had dinner with the night before, just found out that her live-in partner tested positive for COVID. Now what? Do we turn right back and go home? We decided to finish the last hour of the drive and figure out our plan. We ended up staying the weekend and spent all our time with them, socially distanced, outdoors. The weekend turned out to be wonderful - a 20 mile bike ride on Lake Champlain, Saturday morning at the farmer's market and dinners in their backyard, with down jackets and a warm fire going in the fire pit. Longing to give hugs to all!
