A Changed America
Today we see a different nation, one changed by a critical moment in history. In response to this national emergency, the U.S. government enacted new policies and created new agencies. Some cities were partially militarized, and troops went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Calls for security and vigilance indelibly altered the way we travel. Collective calls for patriotism increased. National security became a common topic of discussion. These stories offer reflections about how people and the world changed because of September 11.
