A Step Back in Time

I followed the news, watched the video, read a superb book on the heroism of the people who worked in the towers, and kept track of the histories of the people who died. But, one thing amazed me. For two or three days, no airplanes flew anywhere in the United States. The skies were quiet. Birdsong and the sounds of nature were more audible. It was a step back in time to before the age of the airplane. Since I was born in the 40s, airplanes and helicopters were always present. I hated what happened, but for a while I enjoyed the quiet skies of the past.
