Local Currencies
Local currencies are issued by private businesses and aim to encourage people to buy local products. These alternatives to national currencies operate like sales vouchers. These three notes are used in small businesses in London’s Brixton district. They feature famous former residents (pop star David Bowie and Black Cultural Archives founder Len Garrison) and designs by artist Jeremy Deller.
