Silk parlor throw

Everyday Luxury

Silk Quilts from the National Collection

Closed January 20, 2020

Everyday Luxury featured a rare showing of a selection from the museum’s collection of late 19th century silk quilts. These textiles tell a little known story about American industry, art, fads, and marketing. These quilts were made to be seen and not slept under and were sometimes called “parlor throws.”

This exhibition was made possible by the generous support of the Barbara Coffey Quilt Endowment and Ambassador Nicholas F. Taubman and Mrs. Eugenia L. Taubman.
