New York, Jan'y 1st 1881.

Jan 1st Saturday.

Remain home all day, have quite a number of New Year Cards, and also calls among them Mr. Wurn, husband of Sidonie Dittmarsch of Dresden, Fred Steins and Carl Prox of Brooklyn take supper with us Measure children, Georges height 5 feet 6 inches his weight 127#. Paulas height 5 feet 4¼ inches her weight 110#. I weigh #191, and wife 160#

Jan 2d Sunday.

To store in forenoon. New Office was put up in front Warerooms on friday. Looking over the mail, wife & children call & we walk home together. Take a sleighride with them in afternoon through Central Park, see Mt. St. Vincent Hotel smouldering. In eveg, R. Ranft jr. calls also Max Arming we play Whiskey poker together, retire at 10½ PM

Jan 3d Monday.

Excessively busy all day. Home in eve'g, writing letters & documents, take Wohlgemuth bath nearly every night

Jan 4th Tuesd.

Slight cold & cough, walk to Store & back in a snowstorm. To L.K. Masksession, preside at Meeting, also Music Committee, we resolve to not have Orchestra for next Concert. Home at 11½ PM. Haynes of Oliver Ditson & Co. in town

Jan 5. Wed.

Busy all day, George Lyon, Frank Conover of St. Louis in town, and talk over matters with them. Am overwhelmed with work. Home in evening writing many letters, I continue sneezing and coughing but otherwise feel well
