Punctuation

print this page

William’s punctuation, which was whimsical and often non-existent, is reproduced. If, for instance, he finished a sentence at the end of a line, he almost never supplied a period. Sometimes the punctuation or lack of it produces a sentence that can be understood in different ways. Also, he sometimes wrote periods as if they were commas, and vice versa. The transcription records what the mark appears to be, regardless of what might be correct.
