London, Sept. 26th 1892.

 

Spend evg home, looking over illustrated catalogue with Edw. Eshelby, also Plans for our stand at Chicago Columbian Exhibition, view Collards plan of 1885 with Mr Chas. Eshelby. Saw also Thompson and corrected proof.

Sept 27th Tuesd.

Rested splendidly. Receive invitation to dinner with Mrs. MacKinley (Antoinette Sterling) also a letter from Camilla von Perglass on account of Janotha. Holwede cables that Madame Rosa Sandels cabled Papa Petri died Septbr 25th. So she has due Notice of death of her Grandfather. At 11.48 A.M. my family arrive all well at Victoria station, cable their arrival to Papa Ranft, cable to Herrig + Frantz that I send £5000. in five appoints of £1000. each to them. Had long talk with G. Read about the bus. Management and Chas. Ziegler &c. Mr. J. S. Bevington calls as to Hudson River Tunnel. Family all retire early, I spend evg talking over business with Mr. Eshelby

Sept 28th Wed.

Lovely day, children visit Madame Toussauds wax works, we all, G. Candidus included, take dinner at Cafè Royal. L. Emil Bach calls for me, while my family drive around, and we drive to Bachs residence Aves Road 46, where I meet Baron v. Zedlitz of Dalziels Agency, Walda and a Number of others. Bach's Opera "Die Weiber v. Weinsberg" is played for me. It is a fine composition. Zedlitz cables to N.Y. about my Rapid Transit investigations Bach shows me a contract with Harris, and wants to borrow £500 of me for the first performance of his Opera. Maxwell called during my absence, evidently trying to borrow money. Exch. my steamer tickets, see Director Baldin of Hamburg
