New York, May 13th 1881.

May 13th friday.

Cooler weather, lunch with Brainard of Cleveland at U. Sq. Hotel, home in eve'g, writing to Pastor Ranft and sending him 300 Mark, to Hernnsdorf, Sachsen Altenburg

May 14th Sat.

At Sarony's, have group taken of myself, wife, Geo. + Paula. Then we all dine at U. Sq. Hotel with Papa Ranft take L. Road, in Carriage to Astoria, I give Luther answer to his resignation and speak kindly to him. In eveg with Ranft sen + jr. to L.K. Geselliger Abend with ladies. Joseffy, Miß Juch, Reinhard Richter, Master Baer there, very pleasant. Home at 1 AM

May 15th Sunday.

Brainard of Cleveland calls, Have interview with young Huber as to Bookkeeper at Factory 53d str. Painter Berger looks over Hall with me & makes estimate In afternoon drive with R.R. sen & jr. + Paula to Highbridge take supper there, home at 9 P.M. play Skat with R.R. sen & jr. lose $1.02. Gave Agency to Brainard for Cleveland

At factory in afternoon, looking into the matter of the top making at Astoria. Home in eveg

May 17th Tuesd.

Busy all day. At L.K. in eveg, preside at Business Meeting Fr. Steins, RRjr. to supper with us, called at Thies from 6-6½ P.M. Wife, Paula & Papa Ranft at Vokes, U. Sq. Theatre. Meeting with Wamelink

May 18th Wed.

Ed. E. Quimby calls with our Attorney Geo. L. Roberts of Boston and look over Miller and Emerson pianos & retain him. Louis Ehrensberg leaves his card and that of his wife at the tuning desk. Home in eve'g, fixing up L.K. Mtge & Bonds

May 19. Thursd.

Exciting day. Kissam comes in stating that Mary S. Bradley had made claim upon them, and hands me letter from her lawyers Wood, Butler & Morris of Penn Yan, N.Y. to McDaniels + Souther. I rush to Cotterill, who says, Mrs. Bradley has no claim. Home in eveg, have long talk with Paula about Madame R.R. Paula afterwards tells my wife about Ft Washington & Astoria Nanuet, 1875  & 1876. R.R. sen. to College Pt
