New York, May 7th 1884.

  

noon met Adelaide Van Brunt on Gramercy Park.  Up Broadway in drenching rain, at Office by 3 P.M.  To Wagner Concert with wife, Paula & Papa Ranft, I sing Chorus  all of Tannhäuser performed all artists in good voice, Juch does splendidly as Shepard boy

May 8th Thursd.

Rainstorm continues & dulness of business likewise Frank King arrested yesterday as a thief + put under $300 bonds.My Willie tackled a bigger boy in Gram. Park yesterday and whipped him. In afternoon down town, see Haas and J. Hoffmann at 4.30. back L. Road to 9th street At 6 P.M. to Zieglers. Reinhold L. Hermann calls at noon today in relation to L.K. asst directorship. Have also interview with Theo. Thomas in relation to L.K. directorship for next year. Then via 4th Ave. up town to Zieglers, take dinner there, at 8½ P.M. to Toussaints where my wife and Papa Ranft are already. Quartett evg, we take my new L.K. Quartett, sing "So weit" & Ich hatte einst ein schönes Vaterland +c. am in fine voice.. Home at 12 o'clock.

May 9th friday.

Oscar Steins boy is very sick with diphtheria. Busy all day, home in eve'g writing and taking warm bath Paula, wife & Papa Ranft to Wagner Concert at Opera House (Metrop.) which is quite crowded. I draw up RRt jr. will

May 10th sat.

At last fine weather. letters from Theo. from Southampton and London. Business still very dull, especially at wholesale. The new styles 7 1/3 oct. upr. L. (F with bent rim) came this week to St. Hall and are extremely beautiful, also first M with bent rim in H. Zieglers house, equal to a Grand piano in volume of tone. Jacob Ziegler and wife sail for Europe pr. steamer "Neckar" Am at Astoria, arriving there at 11.30 A.M.
