New York, Decbr. 31st 1886

Decbr 31st friday.

1 A.M. when we retire, Cassebeers remaining with us that night. The year 1886 was on the whole a very prosperous year with us, though we incurred some losses through our kindness to the Lehmann Rummel troupe, Col. Mapleson and the American Opera Comp. The only mishap was my stillborn baby girl May 26th but the birth of a son to Chas. H. Steinway Oct. 20/86, and of a son to  Henry Ziegler November 2d/86, were two very joyful events to our whole family. I myself enjoyed unusual good health all the year, having had only very slight touches of Rheumatic gout and my wife and children also being quite well, and very cunning and smart
