New York, July 24th 1877.

July 24th Tuesday.

Beautiful day, With Koch & Luther at Carvershop, direct Koch what to do & how to fix it up, also to Williams as to Walnut Burls from Scatcherd, drive to N.Y. factory with H. St. the Newspapers state spreading of the strike, the entire Militia of the state of New York called out by Governor Robinson, they bivouak in their Armories all night and day. Lunch at Rathskeller, Chas. St with me. Strike beginning on the Central R.R In office all afternoon, Ernest Hall calls in the forenoon, brings me letter from Bristow, duly signed by the latter. Remain in Store til 7 P.M. writing, The Mails are disarranged all over the Central States, at L.K. in eve'g, preside, home at 11½ PM Adolf Goepel tells me that end of May he saw Reck & Mrs. Dachauer at Drehers Beer Saloon together, and met them again on the Boulevard

July 25th Wed.

fine clear day. Strike still extending though less bloodshed is reported. No Mails from the West, longshoremen are also striking no orders coming in & no goods can be shipped money is also tightening up. Lunch with Chas St at Gerths. Have Hair cut. At 6 P.M with Fr. Steins A. Pagenstecher, his brother & Cousin at Schülers, where we take supper, then to Toussaints house 41st str. where we sing Quartetts til 10½ P.M. then home by 3d Ave. Cars, Fr. Steins to Brooklyn
